About Us

In 2009, Stacy Hines-Dowell, DNP, AGN-BC created Connecting the Dots in an effort to bridge newborn screening (NBS) knowledge gaps among neonatal nurses in a tertiary hospital. While this project started as a simple assessment for nurses, it has grown to an exciting collaboration to Connect the Dots between nurses, parents and other healthcare providers. We have expanded our efforts to create novel yet simple educational resources for parents and providers. Nurses occupy a unique position in the newborn screening process and therefore are critical to ensuring adherence to each state’s NBS guidelines. Research has shown that streamlining the NBS process with timely intervention can significantly reduce intellectual disability, physical disability or even death in an affected child. These data points validate the importance of an evidence-based standardized and comprehensive education resource specific to nursing and other healthcare related education.
